#5 Newton North
The Tigers are the first on our list that return five girls that have run under 20 minutes for 5k. Last season they had a convincing win at the Bay State Conference Championships and were third at the Meet of Champions. The fact they’re third on our list is a testament to how strong girls’ cross country is in Massachusetts.
Newton North return a very strong front two with Esther Dudnik and Maggie Abely. Both ran 18:28 last season at Twilight. Dudnik would place seventh at the Meet of Champions with Abely not far behind in 19th. Abely had a strong season on the track running 5:05 and 2:16 for the Mile and 800m.
Casey Costello, Lily Grace, and Adelle Dupere could form a very strong second pack to close out the scoring. All three have run between 19:23 and 19:43. Costello was just a freshmen last season and ran her PR at the Meet of Champions.
The Tigers have plenty of depth too with Pearl Neafsey, Vivienne Dupere, and Maggie Mantel. Putting them at five seems like were underestimating them, and we could look foolish in November.
