#5 Saint John’s Prep
Now we come to Saint John’s Prep. Is it a coincidence that we have them one spot ahead of BC High? Last year’s Catholic Conference Championship was one of the fastest races of the year with Prep finishing on top. Their top two returners Henry McDonnell and Leo Seltenrich were 5th and 6th in season’s bests, 15:47 and 15:48. McDonnell excelled on the track where he ran 4:17 and 9:25. Seltenrich was part of a group that saw four runners run 9:50 or faster this spring and all are returning.
On Paper Liam Callahan is the next man up. He ran 16:05 at that same meet and followed that up with a 4:28 and 9:44 outdoors. The eagles could have a strong pack with Sam Valentine, Hunter Opal, and Mateo Deorio. Opal and Deorio ran as part of the top seven at the Divisional Meet and Meet of Champions. Deorio could be in line for some big improvements this fall after an excellent spring season, running 4:23 and 9:38.
The Eagles depth doesn’t stop there though. Keep an eye on runners like Oliver Hawes and Cormac Barry who had strong springs. The Competition within their top seven should keep them sharp all season as they look to defend their league title.
Projected Top 5:
Henry McDonnell 15:47
Leo Seltenrich 15:48
Liam Callahan 16:05
Sam Valentine 16:23
Hunter Opal 16:28
