New Balance Nationals, Day 3: Cuthbertson Is Your National Champion

As a weight-thrower, Ainsley Cuthbertson has faced the nation’s best all year. The Lexington senior competed at marquee events like the Millrose Games and was an All-American at both Nike and New Balance Nationals this winter. All that hard work and progression culminated this morning in the hammer throw as the Cuthbertson topped the field to earn her first National Title.

Heading into the weekend, the Lexington standout held a best of 176-6. On the biggest stage she was at her best and tossed an incredible 180-4. As if that wasn’t enough, she was also on the other side of the country yesterday, and placed sixth at Nike Outdoor Nationals with a throw of 179′. That was her PR until this morning. Make sure to keep an eye on the talented thrower, as she will continue her career at he University of Alabama.

Day 3 Highlights

Top Hurdlers Advance

Both Natick’s Emmanuella Edozien and Old Rochester Regional’s Malik Washburn advanced to the Semi-Finals of the 100m and 110m Hurdles. Edozien Advanced on time, running 14.17 to finish 24th overall in the first round. Washburn ran a PB(with a tailwind) of 14.06 to advance and place 18th overall in the first round.

Fast 200s

Sharon’s Nina Kyei-Aboagye ended her season with a 24.12 to finish 16th overall in the Championship 200. In the freshmen race, both Khadijah Diagne of Malden and Terry Kwarteng of Wachusett advanced to the final. Diagne ran 24.56 to finish 6th and Kwarteng ran a PB of 24.62 to finish 8th.

Calvert Earns Bronze

Waconah Regional’s Cooper Culvert saved his best for last. The senior from Windsor jumped a PB of 6-9.5 to finish third overall in the Championship High Jump. Culvert has jumped well as of late. He won the Meet of Champions and the jumped 6-9 at New Englands. He adds to the Bay State’s growing list of All-Americans.

Catholic Memorial’s 4x100m Advances Off State Best

The speedster’s from Catholic Memorial stunned at Franklin Field. With the addition of Indoor 55m star, Ramar Thomas, the CM 4x100m broke the recent State Record set by Saint John’s Prep, running 41.30 to finish sixth overall in the semi-finals to advance. Alongside Thomas, Jelani Semper, Jameson Booker, and Tristan Ham will battle for a spot on the podium.
