Unique. Different. A whole lot of fun.
Sounds like the perfect way to kick off the cross-country season, doesn’t it?
For the second straight year, Marathon Sports and New Balance are bringing their Euro-style cross-country event back to the Bay State with the second annual MARSHVegas XC Classic, set for Sunday, Sept. 13, at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.
This is anything but your typical cross-country meet. Inspired by the spectator-friendly races that are a staple in Europe, the looped course will include hay bale obstacles, a steeplechase water pit and a few other surprise that are rarely seen in American cross country.

The MARSHVegas Classic has been sanctioned by the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association (MIAA) and is open to schools from Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire and New York. The meet will feature freshmen 2K races, junior varsity 3K and 5K races, and championship 5K races to cap the day’s competition. Medals will be awarded to the top 15 finishers in the Freshmen and Junior Varsity races. Plaques will be given to the top three teams and first five individuals in the Championship races. Medals will also be award to the top 15 finishers.
And that’s not all.
Adding to the festival atmosphere, the event will also feature a mechanical bull, food trucks, a live band and plenty of giveaways from New Balance.

The entry fee for the MARSHVegas Classic is $25 per individual if not fielding a full team in each race (less than five participants). For teams (five athletes or more), it’s $100 per gender for Freshmen and JV teams, and $150 per gender for Varsity teams (maximum of seven runners)
Registration is done on Athletic.net. The deadline to register is Wednesday, Sept. 9 at noon. Purchase orders or payment must be received at check-in on race day.
