With the time of season it’s held – just weeks before the divisional state championships and the Meet of Champions – it’s not uncommon to see some of our top MA athletes locking horns with some of the region’s finest at the Glenn B. Loucks Games in White Plains, N.Y. The popular three-day meet celebrated its 56th year this past weekend and once again the competition was top notch.
And several Bay Staters took advantage.
Billerica’s Nyrah Joseph was the lone victor from the state, capturing the girls’ outdoor pentathlon with 3,194 points. Joseph was second or better in four of the five events. She won the 100-meter hurdles in 15.65 seconds and the high jump with a leap of 5 feet, 1.75 inches. The versatile junior was a runner-up in the shot (32-3.75) and the long jump (16-4.25). She was also sixth in the 800m (2:35.26).
Marshfield, a school noted for producing quality distance medley and 4x800m relays each year, was second overall in the DMR. The squad of Scott McCabe, Luke Leary, Kyle Brehan and Graham Heinrich combined for a time of 10:24.97. That effort moved Rams to No. 3 in the state rankings behind Boston Latin (10:18.94) and Westford Academy (10:20.20), the 1-2 finishers at the MSTCA Division 1 Relays on April 28.
Speaking of Westford Academy, sophomore Abigail Hennessey was at her best in a loaded 800m, racing to a state-leading and PR of 2:12.71 to finished seven overall. In the boys’ race, Old Rochester’s Tyler Young was fourth, clocking an all-time best of 1:57.04.
Wellesley’s Charlotte Tuxbury and Bishop Feehan’s Lauryn Augustyn were among the top 10 in the girls’ 3,200m. Tuxbury was fourth overall in 10:35.39, while Augustyn secured the ninth spot with a best of 10:49.06.
Pembroke’s Joseph D’Angelo advanced to the final of the 200m dash. He was eighth in the finals with a time of 22.62.
Salma Boukhtam of North Quincy was 20th in the mile. She crossed the line in a best of 5:09.5.

At Bentley College, a number of current and former high school stars excelled at the Battle Roads TC Twilight Series #1, which also took place on Saturday.
From a local standpoint, the highlight of the night was the performance of Northbridge’s Marcus Reilly in the 5,000m. The Michigan-bound senior was third among the elite field with a fantastic time of 14:28.58.
Ursuline Academy and Northeastern alum Amy Piccolo won the 800m. The 27-year-old Piccolo, who now competes for the Battle Roads TC, was timed in 2:07.46. From MA, she was followed by Plymouth North’s Macy Shriner (third, 2:11.61), Wellesley’s Lily Jin (fifth, 2:16.71) and Ipswich’s Lucy McLean (sixth, 2:16.930. McLean also nabbed second in the 400m (59.52).
Former Uxbridge star Aidan Ross, who just finished his freshman year at Wake Forest, was sixth in the 1,500m with a time of 3:54.32.
Division 3A cross-country state champion Devin Moreau of Greater Lowell Tech and Emerging Elite was third in the 3K at 8:48.14.

The last of the nighttime meets this high school season will be held on Saturday with the annual MSTCA South Shore Twilight Invitational. The meet kicks off at 2 p.m., and includes all the standard events and a few extras like the Sprint Medley Relay and Freshmen 100m, 400m and mile races.
