We have less movement on the girl’s side than the boy’s this week. However, we did get to see two of the best teams in the state run last weekend:

Starting off at the top, Lexington got their season under way up in Manchester with an impressive win. They scored 62 points to Cumberland, Rhode Island’s 87. Jane Conrad led the way finishing third amongst a strong field in 18:33. For reference, Greta Hammer won this race last year in 18:29. We got to see the debut of Amelia Whorton. The middle distance standout ran her first 5K in 18:49. Not bad! Lexington’s top five finished in the top 23. Unfortunately it doesn’t look we’ll get to see them race again this weekend, however they take on Winchester in a tough dual meet on 10/13.
Needham went up to Manchester as well and finished eighth. However, they had a tough dual meet the Wednesday before. The Rockets had to give it their all to hold off Weymouth, winning 27-29. They did so without top runner Madison Roach as well. Roach was 24th overall at Manchester.
Out in Western Mass, Concord-Carlisle made it clear they’re every bit the title threat we anticipated, making the Amherst Invitational look like a dual meet. The girls put their top five in the top 11 and scored 27 points. Maria Chopas got the win in 18:15, the number one time in this state so far over 5K.
The Amherst-Pelham girts topped Notre Dame Academy to finish second overall with 81 points. The Hurricanes move up to 15th in the rankings this week.
