It’s nice to have a weekend of racing go off without a hitch. No last minute cancellations. Some of our top teams took to Franklin Park to take part in the Catholic Memorial Invitational, while a few went down to Virginia to make a statement against the East Coast’s best. There was also the Dick Atkinson Invitational and the Wachusett Invitational.

It was a long wait, but we finally saw the much anticipated debut of Cambridge Rindge & Latin, and they didn’t disappoint. The Falcon’s won the Catholic Memorial Invitational with a score of 61 topping New Hampshire Powerhouse Pinkerton Academy. Cambridge put three runners under 15:50 and their next two under 16:10. Leon Ibanez-Fraile got a massive win in 15:37 making him one of the top contenders to look for going forward. On paper, Brookline matches up well with them, but we give the nod to Cambridge at the moment. Brookline has a tough matchup with Newton North tomorrow and then run their conference championship on 10/31. Keep your eyes peeled for both of those meets.
Concord-Carlisle ran well at Catholic Memorial, finishing as the second Massachusetts team. Their top five had a 33 second spread between 15:49 and 16:22. They could be in line for another Division 1B title. Speaking of which, Natick soars up the rankings as well after finishing 6th with an average time of 16:26 over Franklin Park. They were another team plagued by race cancellations. Newton North finished right behind them led by Ryan Costello, who was runner up in 15:40.
Another big mover was Boston College High School. They traveled to New York for the Burnt Hills Cross Country Hill Invitational where they finished fourth amongst a tough field. After dealing with injuries early on this is a strong show of momentum for the Eagles. The Catholic Conference Championship on 10/27 is shaping up to be one of the best league meets across the state. Xaverian has been a breakaway contender this year and Saint John’s Prep will look to hold onto their title.
The regular season is almost wrapped but there’s still some key dual meets left. #13 Lexington takes on #18 Belmont this afternoon. The ML-12 Championships are shaping up to be one of the tightest races as well. The title appears up for grabs between the latter two teams along with Reading and Arlington.
