Preseason Cross Country Rankings Girls #19: Whitinsville Christian

#19 Whitinsville Christian

When Whitinsville Christian is in the field, you know you’re getting two of the best runners in the state. If not all of the Northeast. Last season Emily and Abby Flagg went 1-2 at the Meet of Champions in the Division 2 race. Emily was dominant all season, going undefeated at in-state races. She was third at Ocean State. After missing her sophomore season, Abby closed the gap on Emily all season culminating in her runner up position just over a second back. In fact, the only races she didn’t win last season were won by her sister.

That’s all well and good, but Cross Country is a team sport. Fortunately (or unfortunately for their rivals), Whitinsville Christian return most of their top seven. Looking to close the gap on the Flaggs will be Inez Smith. She was consistently their number three last season and will be strong in the position again. She holds a PR of 20:01 and was 32nd at Meet of Champions last season.

Josephina Dyke was their fifth runner last season and ran a best of 21:33. However, her PR is from her sophomore season the year before, 20:42. If she can get back into the 20-minute range, that will be huge for the Crusaders, and bad for their competition. Rounding out the top five could be Isabella Aloise. She ran her season best of 22:14 at the Meet of Champions last season so she knows how to run under pressure. The Crusaders were fourth last year in Division 2. Look for them to challenge for the top spot this fall.
