
Beginning on Thursday and stretching until Sunday, schools from throughout the state will be competing in their respective divisions at the annual MIAA Division Championships.
In a final tune-up before facing the state’s best, a host of athletes took part in Saturday’s South Shore Twilight Invitational at Norwell High.
The meet did produce one new state leader with Old Rochester’s Malik Washburn taking over the top spot set just three days earlier by Lexington’s Simon Tandeih. Washburn clocked a meet-record 14.27 seconds in the 110m hurdles after Tandeih ran 14.35 at last Wednesday’s Middlesex League Championships.
Seekonk sophomore Julianna Dutra had a banner day, sweeping the sprint events with times of 12.59 in the 100m and 25.54 in the 200m. She also claimed gold in the 400m hurdles at 1:02.36.
Kameron Getman of Nipmuc Regional was a double winner in the throws, taking the shot put at 35 feet, 1 inch, and the discus with a toss of 118-7.
Dover Sherborn’s Julia Ritchey was a dominant victor in the 800m where she shattered the meet record with a PR of 2:14.89. Finishing second and third, respectively were Old Rochester’s Phoebe Cowles (2:19.75) and Duxbury’s Riley Earle (2:20.70). All three were under the previous MR of 2:21.03 by Wellesley’s Emma Tuxbury at last year’s meet.
Xaverian Brothers took care of the sprints in the boys’ meet. Alex Todorov captured the 100m in 10.80, while teammate Aidan Arnold broke the tape in the 200m at 22.48. The Hawks also came out on top in the 4x100m relay with quartet of Todorov, Marcus Reyes, Rory Weston and Pariac Kelly combining for a time of 43.09.
Rayeden Surpis of Boston College High won a tight race in the 400m. Surpis was timed in 50.55, just 0.20 seconds ahead of Bridgewater-Raynham’s Caiden Blake.
n the Freshmen 400m, St. John’s Srikar Choudary Adusumilli took the title in an impressive 51.12, nearly three seconds faster than his closest competitor.
