Throughout the next few weeks, Bay State Running will be putting the spotlight on some of the top performances of the outdoor track and field season. While we’ve had our share of showstoppers over the past few months, these are the moments that we feel stood out the most and left the biggest impression.

It’s not unusual to see some of the state’s elite perform at their very best during championship season. That’s often what separates them from the rest.
Ryan Pulpi was one of those athletes. Against his rivals, the Reading senior was unbeatable this season in events ranging from the 100-meter dash to the 400m. He won two of those events at the Meet of Champions, where he earned gold in the 200m and 400m with PRs of 21.06 and 47.33, respectively.
While he later captured a New England title in the 200m, along with several other victories in his signature events, the performance we consider his most impressive came at the Division 3 Championships on May 29. Competing in the 100m, where PRs are often measured in hundredths of a second, Pulpi blazed to an all-time best of 10.44, shattering his previous best by a remarkable 0.27 seconds. That performance vaulted him to No. 2 on the state’s all-time list, just 0.04 seconds shy of the state record of 10.40, set by former South Hadley standout Jonas Clark at the 2022 MIAA All-State Championships.
