New Balance Boys Power Rankings Week 8

The last week was even crazier than expected. There were phenomenal performances across the State at almost every league meet, making these the most difficult power rankings so far. Over the last eight days, each of the top six teams made a case for being #1. In fact, if we had updated the rankings daily, there would have been a different #1 each day.

After all that, it may seem anticlimactic, but our top two teams retain their positions. Concord-Carlisle remains at #1 due to their consistency throughout the season. They came in at #1, and have met every expectation so far this season, including an impressive performance at Franklin Park at the DCL championships.

Perhaps it’s recency bias, but either way, Lexington holds onto their #2 position after their performance at the Middlesex League Championships were their top 5 all broke 16 minutes, plus two from the JV Race.

The next few spots are where it gets tricky. At one point, Saint John’s Prep appeared to have locked up the #1 spot after their performance at the Catholic Conference Championships. A lot happened since then. They land at #3, getting the nod over Brookline, due to all their top performances coming from the same meet. That being said, Brookline may have the best chance of upsetting the apple cart, as they should get their top two runners in before each of the teams in front of them. If their four and five runners have a great day, who knows?

Boston College High School and Cambridge Rindge & Latin come in at five and six. The Eagles are another team that could pull off the upset. At full strength they could win it all.

The biggest mover of the week is Arlington. We’d speculated all season about what they could do as we only had their dual meet results. Well, we saw them upset Reading at the Middlesex League Championships. Now they’ll have their sights set on Natick at the Division 1B Championships.

Both Oliver Ames and Parker Charter move up after impressive wins at their respective League Meets. Longmeadow moves to #12 after winning the A race at the Western Mass Championships over Amherst. Groton-Dunstable and Newton South rejoin the top twenty after strong performances at their respective championships meets.
