With the predicted snowstorm on Sunday, the Large School meet could be taking place on Saturday, preceding the Small School meet. Here’s a message from Matt Carr, the Director of Meet Operations for Indoor Track.
“Due to the pending storm, we have made the decision to reschedule Sunday’s Freshman-Sophomore Large Schools meet to Saturday (January 6) from 4-8pm–following the Small Schools meet. This is VERY short notice and we are doing everything in our power to make this meet happen for your athletes.
We are trying to pull together staffing and meet preparation in under 24-hours. We want to give your athletes the opportunity to compete in this great meet. To make it work, here is what we need from you:”

The Reggie Lewis Athletic Center will play host to the Freshmen-Sophomore Invitational this weekend. Athletes from the Small Schools will contest on Saturday, while the Large Schools will match up on Sunday. Both are slated to begin at 10 a.m.
Who are some of the top entries at the two meets?.
Small Schools (LIVE RESULTS)
Sophomore Silas Gartner of Falmouth is a heavy favorite in the boys’ mile where he has the top seed of 4 minutes, 4 minutes, 32 seconds, a time that is 18 seconds ahead of his closest pursuer. We’re expecting a closer affair in the girls’ mile where Archbishop Williams’ Maddie Hussey (5:18.47) and Whitinsville Christian freshman Abbey Flagg (5:21.29) own the top two seeds. Malden Catholic’s Mia Waldron is No. 3 at 5:26.19.
Look for a few runners to get under 1:30 in the 600-meter run. The top seeds are all within range of the mark with tenth-graders Gavin Brady of North Reading (1:30.38). Amesbury’s Maxx Rodrigues (1:30.60), Blomfield, CT’s Liam Kemeza (1:30.71), Duxbury’s Connor Edge and Shepherd Hill’s Riley Lepage expected to answer the gun.
The favorite in the girls’ two mile is freshman all-stater Emily Flagg of Whitinsville Christian, who currently ranks No. 5 in the state with a best of 11:31.69. Walpole’s Ila Zollo is the only other runner that has gone under 12 minutes with a time of 11:40.91. Walpole has the top seed in the boys’ two mile with sophomore Luke Zahurak the lone entry under 10 minutes with a seed of 9:57.56.
In the girls’ 300m, Nauset Regional’s Violet Roche and Canton’s Chloe Dubulsson, the top two seeds, could produce a thriller at the finish. Roche has a best of 41.98, a time she ran last year as a ninth-grader to place third at the Div. 3 Championships. Dubulsson comes in with a PR of 43.21, also from last year.
There’s also some impressive squads in the 4x200m relays. For the boys, Duxbury has a top seed of 1:31.86. The girls have two sub 1:50 teams with North Reading (1:45.44) and Tewksbury (1:46.20).
Large Schools (LIVE RESULTS)
Tne long jump appears to be one of those events that could be very competitive during championship time with nearly a dozen athletes in the 21-foot range. Among that group is sophomore Curtis Mowatt, who is the No. 1 seed for Sunday’s meet with a PR of 21-1.75. The next two seeds are 20-footers Ryan Conley of Lowell (20-1) and Lawrence’s Ian Perdomo (20-0). King Philip’s Alex D’Amadio, who leaped 18-0.75 as a freshman during the outdoor season last spring, holds the top spot for girls.
Keep an eye on the boys’ mile where Natick’s John Bianchi is the No. 1 seed with a best of 4:26.37. The No. 2 seed is Reading’s Tim Connolly at 4:38.87. The girls’ mile features three runners with seeds under 5:20 – Framingham’s Sasha Lamakina (5:13.05) Westford Academy’s Emily Wedlake (5:16.66) and Wachusett’s Naomi Witt (5:19.29).
Both of the 600m races could produce some excitement down the stretch. The girls’ event includes Newton South’s Emily Frawley (1:39.09), Wellesley’s Kayla Bohlin (1:39.25), North Quincy’s Maddy McGillicuddy (1:40.13) and Woburn’s Leah Finn (1:40.24). Weymouth’s Colin Geagan (1:28.57), and Lexington freshmen Arjun Raha (1:28.68) and Eli Selsky (1:30.61) own the 1-2-3 seeds in the boys’ race.
The girls’ 1,000m appears to be a must-watch event with Westford Academy’s Abigail Hennessey (3:03.80), Wellesley’s Emma Tuxbury (3:04.0) and Needham frosh Madison Roach (3:04.25) the top entries.
One of our state’s best will be toeing the line in the boys’ 300m. The No. 1 seed is Nico Begic, who currently ranks No. 6 in MA with a best of 35.78. Lowell’s Conley is the two seed with a best of 37.37.
Woburn’s Nicole Gangi is the lone seed under nine seconds in the girls’ 55m hurdles with a PR of 8.80, an effort that is No. 8 in the state right now.
Among the top teams in the 4x400m based on seeds that were submitted are Hopkinton (3:25.83) for boys and Woburn (4:10.0) and Wellesley (4:10.0) for girls
