Yes, believe it or not, the cross-country season is almost here.
It just about a month, teams will be participating in their first official day of practice. The meet schedule kicks off on Sept. 9 with the MSTCA X-C Relays at Highland Park. The Attleboro venue will also once again play host to the fifth annual Highland Park Invitational. Meet director Bob L’Homme has opened up registration for the Sept. 16 event, which is open to schools from Massachusetts and nearby Rhode Island and sanctioned by the MSTCA.
The meet includes boys’ and girls’ Freshmen 3K, Varsity 5K and Open 3K races. At last year’s meet, the Ocean State earned the bragging rights in the featured Varsity 5K. In the girls’ race, East Greenwich’s Reese Fahys earned her second straight individual crown and Cumberland scored just 24 points to take the team prize. EG captured team honors for boys with the Avengers’ Nick Martin leading the way with a runaway victory.
