New Balance Power Rankings Week 8

Our final week of power rankings is here. This past weekend wrapped the final conference and league championship meets and gave us plenty of results to pore through. Here’s where things stand:

Week 8
1. Cambridge
2. Brookline
3. BC High
4. North Andover
5. Saint John’s Prep +1
6. Lexington +1
7. Concord-Carlisle
8. Newton North +1
9. Xaverian +1
10. Arlington +1
11. Lincoln Sudbury +1
12. Natick
13. Hopedale
14. Andover
15. Reading
16. Oliver Ames
17. Newton South
18. Weston
19. Parker Charter +1
20. Catholic Memorial

Starting at the top, Brookline looked strong at the Bay State Conference Championships, but we still give the nod to Cambridge Rindge & Latin. The biggest takeaway from that race was Ibrahim Abdel-Dayem getting the win over teammate Liam Hartman and Newton North’s Ryan Costello. That’s significant because if the Warriors want to win, they’ll need to get their top two in before the Falcon’s first runner.

Speaking of Newton North, they were a strong second at the BSC Champs and move back up to 8th. They’ll have their work cut out for them in just over a week at the Division 1A race with BC High and Lexington peaking at the right time.

Cambridge looked as good as expected at the DCL Championships. They’re challenge will be having to perform at their best two weeks in row at Fort Devins. Some times it’s easier to be the hunter rather than the hunted. Lincoln-Sudbury continues to impress after taking third and falling to Concord Carlisle on tie breaker. Weston meanwhile had a dominant win in the Foley Race.

Andover debuts on our list at #14 after a strong runner up finish to North Andover at the Merrimack Valley Conference Championships. Led by Senior Landon Zoss, last season’s runner-up, they’ll look to qualify as a team out of Division 1A.

Hopedale continues to hold steady at #13 after holding off Parker Charter, again. The two top Division 3 teams have battled all season, and that’s not stopping anytime soon as they’ll see each other twice more.

Oliver Ames comes in at #16 after an impressive showing at the Hockomock League Championships. They won with a score of 45 and their top 5 all broke 17 at Wrentham. Reading appears to be in the driver’s seat for Division 1C, but Oliver Ames will look to challenge and defend their title in just over a week.

Starting next week we will shift our focus to previewing each race of the Divisional weekend throughout the state. However, there is an invitational this weekend, with the Frank Mooney Invitational as well as the Western Mass Championships.
