Among several meets in MA this past weekend was the annual Jim Hoar Freshmen-Sophomore Invitational, held at Weymouth High.
The highlights were plentiful by the talented underclassmen that participated at Sunday’s meets. Peabody sophomore Alex Jackson unleashed the shot a meet record of 58 feet, 6 inches, an effort that spring-boarded Jackson to No. 2 in the state and sixth in the nation for tenth-graders. The Tanners’ standout also moved to third in the state rankings in the discus with another MR and all-time best of 156-7. Xaverian Brothers sophomore Mitchell Kisgen broke 51 seconds in the 400-meter run for the second time this season with a winning time of 50.95. He also came close to his PR in the long jump with a distance 20 feet, 11.75 inches, good for runner-up honors. That event was won by gifted freshman Aman Mow of Lexington, who soared to a triumphant 21-10, which ties him for No. 10 statewide.
Bishop Feehan sophomore Brooke Serak, the state’s indoor shot champion, came up just short of her second 40-footer this spring with a winning toss of 39-7. She was nearly five feet further than her closest rival. Peabody tenth-grader Alessandra Forgione broke the meet record in the javelin with a state-leading heave of 134-11. Newton North’s 4x100m squad etched its name in the record books with a time of 50.94.
All in all, the Jim Hoar Invite proved to be a quality competition, showcasing the talents of the youngest of our MA track & field athletes.
