With Labor Day coming later this year, two weeks of Cross Country seem to have flown by. While that didn’t provide a ton of action, there were two weekends of Invites as well as some interesting Dual Meets. With that said, there wasn’t too much fluctuation from our original preseason rankings:

There was only one change and addition to our list. However, that doesn’t mean there wasn’t some exciting results. They just confirmed what we already suspected more or less.
Norwell had an impressive win at the Martha’s Vineyard Invitational with a score of 55. Katherine Murray took the win in a state leading* 18:55. Both Murray and Norwell will have their eyes set on a Division Three title this season. Advanced Math and Science Academy had an impressive run finishing in second with a score of 72. They debut at #20 on our rankings.
While Weymouth looked good on the Vineyard, they did not run a full team. However, they did follow that up with a key victory over Wellesley. Sonia Souto got the win there and was runner up on the Vineyard. An excellent start to her junior year.
The Bishop Feehan girls looked strong winning the Highland Park Invitational with 34 points. Their top four finished 5-8.
During the Varsity Race at the Marshvegas Classic, things took an odd and unfortunate turn. While everyone in attendance was ready for the rain and mud, no one expected an errant lightning struck. Since the race had already started, the girls were directed to finish just the first loop. Greater Lowell still got the win, and looked impressive, but it’s unfortunate we didn’t get to see them over 5K.
As we mentioned in our boy’s rankings, The Ted Tudkiewicz Invitational featured a new course that appeared to be short. Regardless of the times, the Hampshire girls had an impressive win and prove their a team to keep an eye on.
Coming up this week we have both the Amherst Invitational and Manchester Invitational. We should see the Needham Girls at Manchester as they’ve run it the last few years. Lexington has it on their schedule but we’ll have to wait and see if the State #1 runs.
