Boys #2 Natick holds off #15 Wellesley, 24-32, tops Braintree 15-50

The Natick boys’ team had another early season test when Wellesley came to town. John Bianchi took the win again for the RedHawks in 16:30. Not far behind, teammate Freddie Van der Velden held off Wellesley’s top runner Sami Juma, 16:37-38. From there they continued to trade places as Daniel Goldberg of Wellesley was able to break up Declan Hava and Benjamin Gidelson.

Wellesley’s depth was on display, and may have given Natick a scare, as they took the next four positions. Their pack of Henry Ofenlock, Solomon Jin, Alexander Bonnette, and Liam Fitzpatrick finished together in 17:14-18. They’ll be a strong group to watch at their first Invitational. Jonathan Pereira, Brady Collins, and Dylan Cooke rounded out the scoring for Natick in 17:22-23. Natick vs Braintree ended up the race of the day. Braintree secured their first win of the season with a score of 28-29. Chloe Dinh and Anna Flaherty got the Wamps off to a great start going 1-2 in 20:04 and 20:08. But they had to be nervous when they saw the sea of red and blue jerseys that came in together. Kallie Rader of Natick and Emma Koca of Braintree traded spots going 3-4, but then it was all Natick.

Natick shoed tremendous depth taking the next five spots. Margaret Armstrong and Samantha McMorrow both finished under 20 minutes, and then Megan Joyce, Erin Wagner, and Lydia Beaudoin came in under 21. In the end Braintree was able to prevail, as Ella McDonald and Isabella Chung rounded out the scoring. Keep an eye on both Braintree and Natick.
