HOKA Athletes Of The Week: Winchester’s Daniel Killian & Framingham’s Sasha Lamakina

The Christmas holiday left this past weekend free of competition for our track & field athletes. But that doesn’t mean we were minus any top performances for this week’s HOKA Athletes of the Week. For this week’s honor we’re picking two athletes that we felt shined the brightest during the week in league competition. Congratulations to Winchester’s Daniel Killian and Framingham’s Sasha Lamakina, our respective male and female recipients.

Killian clocked the fastest time in the state in the 55-meter dash last Thursday in a Middlesex League meet at the TRACK at New Balance. The Flyers junior blazed to a PR of 6.54 seconds to win his race by a tenth of a second over senior teammate George Nelson. Hie effort jumped ahead of the previous state-leader of 6.55 by Andover’s Jason DeJesus from the MSTCA Speed Classic on Dec. 17.

As for Lamakina, she raced to the fastest time in the state for the 600m in a Bay State Conference meet, also on Thursday. The Flyers’ tenth-grader broke the tape with an all-time best of 1:37.34. In a competitive race, she led two others under 1:40 with Brookline junior Anna Leschly (second, 1:39.13) and Wellesley sophomore Kayla Bohlin (third, 1:39.29) taking the next two spots.
