It was a big day for several of our Bay State athletes at the New England Championships this past Saturday, most who were prepping for the upcoming national meets that are on agenda over the weekend.
For this week’s male recipient of the HOKA Athlete of the Week, we nominate one of our winners from the regional competition in Bangor, Me., Bishop Stang shot-putter Jacob Cookinham. The Spartans’ senior, one of the top contenders at the New Balance Nationals in Philadelphia, unleashed an outdoor best and winning heave of 66 feet, 0.25 inches. Cookinham, who is unbeaten this season, continued his consistency inside the circle where he where he has exceeded 61-4.5 or further in all his meets. At the New England’s, he had four tosses that were over 65 feet!
