The entries are starting to come in for Bay State Running’s inaugural Mid-Distance Classic at St. John’s Prep. The event, which is sponsored by HOKA and Marathon Sports, will be held on Friday night, April 21. It features the 400- and 800-meter runs and the mile.
Meet director and SJP head coach Zack Lankow has indicated that his star runners, Nate Lopez and Paul Lovett, are among the entries that will be competing in the mile. Lopez, a second-place finisher in the two mile at the Meet of Champions this past winter, has a best of 4:13.30. Lovett comes in with a PR of 4:24. North Andover is also entered in the meet, which will be live streamed by BSR. We’re expecting the Scarlet Knights’ Camden Reiland and Ryan Connolly to be lacing up their racing shoes, too. Reiland, a sub two-minute 800m runner, was fourth in the 1,000m at the Meet of Champions this past indoor season with a best of 2:31.82. He’s also done 4:23 for the mile. Connolly was a runner-up in the mile at the MOC and ran his best of 4:16.66 to place third at the New England Championships. In addition to Massachusetts, the meet is sanctioned for RI, CT and NH. La Salle Academy, a perennial powerhouse in Rhode Island, is among one of the top, out-of-state schools that will be making the trip.
The Mid Distance Classic offers unlimited entries for schools with no qualifying standards required. The mile will include a Championship Race based on the top seeds. Don’t be left out of this great, new event! Registration for the meet is done on Direct Athletics. The deadline to register is Tuesday, April 18 at 8 p.m. For more information on the meet, click HERE.
