Wachusett Frosh Ignites Early-Season Sparks On Day 2 Of Winter Festival

Two weeks into the indoor season, it appears we have a new star emerging in the sprints.

On Day 2 of the MSTCA Winter Festival this past Sunday, freshman Terry Kwarteng of Wachusett Regional raced to a sizzling 7.35 seconds to capture the 55-meter dash. Kwarteng’s effort not only tied for the state lead with Foxboro’s Lauren Bober, it also ranks No. 10 nationally among ninth-graders.

Auburn’s Isabel Zukowski moved to the top of the rankings in the shot put. The senior thrower, a third-place finisher at last spring’s outdoor state meet, heaved the 8-pound implement 37 feet, 9.5 inches.

With an appropriate last name for his line of work, Clinton junior Sean Blaze dominated the competition in the 300 meters with a then state-best time of 35.20. In an ML-12 meet on Tuesday, Reading’s Ryan Pulpi took over the lead with a best of 35.02.

With two different legs from last year’s sixth-place squad at the Meet of Champions, Brockton showed it still has strength in its 4×400-meter relay. The slightly altered lineup of Abdiel Snelling, Ricardo Pierre, and newcomers Henry Ani and freshman Artenez Brown Edge won a time trial of sorts with a fast, early-season mark of 3:27.98—nearly identical to the 3:27.90 the Warriors posted at the MOC.

Earlier in the meet, Snelling won convincingly in the 600 meters with a state No. 1 time of 1:25.29, finishing more than five seconds ahead of his closest pursuer. Teammate Jarred Mighty, who was part of the 2024–25 foursome, captured the 55-meter hurdles in 7.75, currently No. 2 in Massachusetts.
