This last week was relatively quiet so there is not a ton of movement in the rankings. However, one team made a big leap over the weekend despite the blazing temperatures. While New Hampshire may have won the battle, the Boston Latin Academy boys conquered the race with an impressive win and they move up to #11 in our rankings.
They are now the top ranked team in Division Two. This sets up for a great battle in November, with defending champs Longmeadow looking strong and Walpole surging as well.
Arlington finally makes their debut in the power rankings. They were on our preseason list and have consistently been on the bubble. The only thing holding them back was lack of invitational races, but their grueling Middlesex Schedule has shown they’re more than capable of holding their own with the best. Based off their top five runner’s 5K best this season (all courses), they currently rank eighth in the state. (Per athletic.net). Now, the caveat here is those are dual meets and courses we may not be familiar with. Still, the point stands. Arlington is a team we think will be battling for top five in Division 1B.
So where do the rest of our teams stand as we head into the second half of the season? We have another massive weekend of racing scheduled, which will shake the rankings up again. The Devens Pre-Championship Classic will give us an idea of what some of our top teams look like on our Meet of Champs course. #6 Boston College High School has Devens on their schedule, although we don’t know who will be running. If their Varsity Squad is running, it will be our first look at them against top mass teams, except for their dual meets of course. They had an impressive performance at the McQuaid Invitational in NY where they finished fifth amongst a very strong field.
Speaking of out of State, there is also the Wickham Park Invitational and the Manhattan Invitational. #3 Lexington is scheduled to race at Wickham, but first they have a massive dual meet against #7 Reading. Keep an eye out for those results in our New Balance Race Report.
Stay tuned for our previews of Devens and Twilight.
