6. Newton North
Newton North comes in at the sixth spot with four runners returning under 20 Minutes for 5K. They were fifth last year in the Division 1A race and should improve on that this fall. They’ve got a top contender in the lead with Maggie Abely. She’s coming off a strong outdoor season where she ran 5:04.
Etsy Dudnik, Lily Grace, and Adelle Dupere all ran under 20 minutes last season giving the Tigers depth behind Abely. Dudnik was 20th at the Division 1A race last fall giving the Tigers a strong number two. They have another four runners returning that ran between 20:09 and 20:32 led by Leigh Gee. Gee returns from their top seven last season and will bring experience having run at the Meet of Champions in 2024.
What’s next for the Tigers? Last season Newton North was fourth at the Bay State Conference meet, despite trailing first place Wellesley by 5 points. That’s how tough that Conference is. Between their strength up front and their depth, the Tigers should be able to improve on their position and challenge the next team on our list for the title.
