The Wrentham Developmental Center, a familiar venue for several cross-country competitions in Massachusetts, will open its gates Saturday for the first statewide meet of the fall season with the annual MSTCA Frank Kelley Invitational.
The meet gives runners from every class a chance to shine, with separate Large and Small School 3K races for freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors. Sandwiched between those races are two Open Varsity 5K competitions, scheduled for 12 and 12:30 p.m.
Unless the impending Nor’easter switches gears, the Kelley Invite will go on as scheduled, rain or shine. The predicted storm has already forced officials to cancel the Ocean State Invitational in Warwick, R.I., but organizers in Wrentham are moving forward with Saturday’s meet.
The first race begins at 9 a.m., with the Small School Freshman Girls 3K. The final event of the day is the Large School Senior Boys 3K, scheduled for 3:20 p.m.
