Bay State Runners Have Plenty Of Options This Weekend

Massachusetts athletes will have plenty of meets to choose from this weekend.

There will be a total of five different competitions held on Saturday and Sunday.

Highland Park will be the site of two of those meets on Saturday. The Attleboro venue will host the annual Highland Park Invitational during the morning, featuring Freshman and Open 3K races and a Varsity 5K race. In the afternoon, the MSTCA XC Relays will take over the premises, with Co-Ed, Freshman-Sophomore, and Junior-Senior four-person teams covering a total of 4.6 miles.

Also on Saturday is the Mid-Wach XC Relays at Ghiloni Park in Marlborough. The meet will feature a boys’ race, girls’ race, and mixed race. The boys’ and girls’ races will consist of three runners, each covering 1.8 miles. The mixed race will have four runners, with two getting it started by running 1.8 miles each and the next two finishing it off with 0.9-mile legs. As its name suggests, this event is for schools in the Midland-Wachusett League.

On Sunday, there are the Ted Dutkiewicz Memorial XC Invitational at Springfield Central High School and the MarshVegas Classic at the Marshfield Fairgrounds.

The “Duck Races” will include Freshman and Junior Varsity races covering 1.49 miles, along with Varsity 5K races.

The MarshVegas Classic, sponsored by Marathon Sports and New Balance, brings Euro-style cross-country to the Bay State. The looped course features obstacles such as hay bales and a water pit that runners must endure in this unique and fun event. There will be separate Freshman, Junior Varsity, and Varsity races.
