Over the weekend, the Lexington girls proved something we already knew.
Perhaps the Minutemen’s showing at Saturday’s Manchester (N.H.) Invitational made believers of a few more.
Averaging a 5K pace of 19 minutes, 23 seconds among its scorers on a course that simply shows no mercy, Lexington was the fastest of them all at Derryfield Park. The Minutemen captured the Large School division, defeating Rhode Island powerhouse and three-time defending state champion Cumberland, 62-87.
The returning Division 1 state titlist, ranked No. 1 in our New Balance Power Rankings, had its top five among the first 25 finishers. The Minutemen were sparked by the duo of junior Jane Conrad and junior teammate and cross-country newcomer Amelia Whorton, who finished second and fifth, respectively, with sub-19-minute efforts of 18:34 and 18:49. Junior Ella Tyson (13th, 19:34), senior Callie Glen (19th, 19:49) and freshman Ophelia Charest (24th, 20:07) finished off the scoring.
The recent performance by Lexington should create quite a bit of confidence when it takes on some of the region’s best at this Saturday’s Ocean State Invitational. The Minutemen, who claimed the 2025 title, will be aiming for their second straight victory.

Needham was eighth among the 23 teams with 261 points. Senior teammates Madison Roach (25th, 20:09.7) and Claire Cianciolo had the top placements for the the Rockets. In the boys’ Large School race, Lexington was fourth with 112 points. Senior Trevor Stevens was fourth overall with a time of 16:13.9. Patrick Noonan, a senior, also cracked the top 15, placing 14th in 16:43.9.
