The Meet of Champions has come and gone, and now it’s time for some of our state’s top athletes to take on the best the region has to offer.
That happens Saturday at the 79th annual New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships. This year’s meet will be held at Noble High School in North Berwick, Maine. Field events begin at 9 a.m., with running events scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m.
Massachusetts will be well represented at the regional competition, boasting the top seed in 14 events.
On the girls’ side, the Bay State’s top seeds include Natick’s Emmanuella Edozien in the 100-meter hurdles (14.07), Sharon’s Nina Kyei-Aboagye in the 100m dash (11.83), Natick’s Chloe Elder in the 400m (53.96), Oliver Ames’ Lavender Kozaka in the long jump (19 feet, 10.75 inches), Newton North’s Blake MacNeal in the triple jump (39-8.25), and Taunton’s Sophia Olaniyan in the discus (140-1).
For the boys, Massachusetts’ No. 1 seeds include Clinton’s Sean Blaze in the 100m (10.64), Reading’s Ryan Pulpi in the 200m (21.06), Catholic Memorial’s Amar Skeete in both the long jump (24-1) and triple jump (51-2), Cohasset’s Nicholas Askjaer in the shot put (61-7) and javelin (187-1), and Abington in the 4×400-meter relay (3:16.06).
