While there was a plethora of high school action last weekend, Hopkinton, NH played host to the New England Cross Country Championships. The Hopkinton Fairgrounds course will host the NCAA Regional Championships, so this was a great opportunity for some local teams to scout out the course.
Men’s Race
Leading the way for the Bay State was UMass Amherst, as they finished runner up to the University of Rhode Island. Liam Ouellette, formerly of Beverly High School, finished eighth overall for the Minutemen in 24:28. Former Northampton Runner Riley Cole was 26th in 25:07. Familiar faces Altamo Aschkenasy of Brookline, and Logan Walsh of Ludlow, both ran well in their first New England’s for UMass, running 25:50 and 26:09. Former Brookline standout Kailas Ciatto ran 26:35 for the Minutemen.
The honor of top runner from the Bay State went Joe Mahon, formerly of Woburn, finishing second overall for Holy Cross in 24:02. That’s just over 3:00 per KM, or just over 15:00 5K pace.
The Stonehill Skyhawks also feature plenty of Bay State Athletes. Dylan Brilliant of Plymouth, MA, has consistently led the Skyhawks this season, and finished 21st overall in 25:01. Teammate Jacob Tobin, of Natick, was 32nd in 25:16. Familiar face and recent Peabody Grad, Declan Smith, ran strong late to crack the top 50 for Stonehill running 25:34.
Merrimack also represented the Bay State well, finishing seventh overall. Teammates Aidan Dupil of Oliver Ames fame, and Sean Moore of Danvers, led the way running 24:55 and 25:02. Lunenberg’s Michael Alleva ran 25:55, while grad student Will Shahbazian, of Andover, ran 26:39 for Merrimack.

Women’s Race
Maci Chapman of Tewksbury led the way for Merrimack, running 18:03 for the 5K course to finish 14th. Merrimack finished fifth overall. Marianna Collins of Weymouth ran 18:32 to finish 34th overall. Lily Thomas of Salem and Caroline White of Walpole ran 18:57 and 19:01 over the Hopkinton Course. Courtney Hinchion of Danvers ran 19:13 and Olivia Guckian, former Algonquin Regional Athlete, ran 19:22.
Like their Men’s Team, Stonehill’s Womens team has a strong contingent of runners from the Bay State. Senior Emily Young of Beverly was their top finisher, running 18:12 for 15th. The Skyhawks finished 11th overall. Familiar face and recent Weymouth Grad, Isabella Galusha continues her strong freshmen season, running 18:27. Junior Kellie Harrington of Pittsfield was fourth for them in 19:18.
Holy Cross was seventh overall, and featured Junior Lauren Hughes of Natick, who ran 18:58, alongside freshmen Meghan Moran of Westfield in the same time. Sophomore Chloe Dibb of Barnstable ran 19:37.
