3. Westford Academy
The defending Champs from the Division 1 race at the Meet of Champion return a formidable squad this fall led by one of the best runners in state history. After a record-breaking outdoor season that saw a new state best in the Mile, all eyes will be on Abigail Hennessy this fall. However, Westford Academy managed to win last year without their star.
That’s because they’re also bolstered up front by Emily Wedlake, who was fifth in that race, and followed that up with a 10:41 Two Mile outdoors. It’s entirely possible that Westford Academy could go 1-2 at the Meet of Champions.
While no one else can match that 1-2 punch, Westford Academy still faces some questions heading into 2025. They had two strong freshmen last season in Emily Deeks and Diya Shrestha. Both finished in the top ten in Division 1B race helping their team edge out Wellesley for the win. Shrestha followed that up with her 19:28 PR at Willard Field. That top four will be near insurmountable for teams to overcome.
However, the Ghosts are still in need of a fifth runner if they want to repeat as champions. They have Amarita Harish and Annalise Philpot returning that could help fill the role. Philpot finished the outdoor season running 5:47 for the Mile.
