Preseason Girls #4: Winchester

4. Winchester

Winchester returns their top six from last year after fishing runner up at the Middlesex League meet. Junior Riley Newman leads the way with an 18:47 5K PR from that same meet. Winchester’s strength comes from the pack the follows her. Caroline Lanz, Julia Ramsey, and Chloe Walker finished 11th, 12th, and 14th at the same meet. A pack like that can take over a race in the final mile.

As just a freshmen last season, Lanz ran 11:23 for the Two Mile and will look to emerge as one of the top sophomores in the state. Ramsey had a blazing season on the track in the 800 running 2:15. If some of that speed carries over onto the XC course, Winchester will be one of the most exciting teams to watch.

Behind them Winchester has a strong duo coming back in Alex Machemer and Michele Su having run 20:00 and 20:13 each. Add that to an already strong top four and Winchester is one of the deepest teams on paper. They’ll face tough competition all season in their own conference so XC fans will want to keep an eye on the Middlesex League Schedule for when they face another team coming up on this list.
