Things are starting to shape up in Massachusetts with the championship season just a few short weeks away. In the most popular meet of the fall campaign, the Bob Glennon Twilight Invitational, two of the stars that we’re expecting to shine brightly in the upcoming weeks, had statement races at this past weekend’s meet.
For that, the talented duo are our latest HOKA Athletes of the Week. Congratulations to our female and male recipients, Needham’s Greta Hammer and Westford Academy’s Jack Graffeo. Both harriers earned decisive victories in the Large School races on Sunday night at the Cape Cod Fairgrounds.
The Rockets’ Hammer proved to be untouchable in her race. The gifted junior was the fastest of them all in the two-day meet with a PR of 17 minutes, 40.1 seconds, a solid 11 ticks in front of second-place finisher and two-time Division 1 titlist, Aoife Shovlin of Cambridge Rindge & Latin.
In his first race of the season, Graffeo captured his second straight title at Twilight. Just like the year before, the Colorado commit went sub-15 on the quick 5K, breaking the tape in a phenomenal 14:56.10 seconds, a comfortable 20 seconds ahead of his closest pursuer.
