Before heading off to this weekend’s national meets, some of our top athletes made one final stop in New Hampshire for Saturday’s 77th annual New England Track & Field Championships. While the MA entries were somewhat down from in the past, several left with some coveted hardware from their day’s work. For this week’s HOKA Athletes of the Week, we’ve chosen two individuals who make noise away from the track oval. We recognize two individuals who have manufactured quite a season in their specialties, which includes top performances at this past weekend’ meet. Congratulations to Peabody’s Alex Jackson and Newton North’s Skye Petrie-Cameron, our respective female and male recipients of this week’s honor.
After finishing second in the shot at the Meet of Champions a week earlier, Petrie-Cameron struck it rich at the New England’s where she uncorked a winning throw of 43 feet, 4.5 inches. The talented senior’s effort was slightly over a foot ahead of runner-up Anna Siciliano of Hall, who had a best of 42-4. Petrie-Cameron currently leads the state with her all-time best of 45-2 from the Division I Championships in late May.
The Tanners’ Jackson continued his consistency with the metal ball by unleashing his fourth 60 footer of the season at the New England’s. His latest, a near best of 61-3.25, earned him a silver medal at the regional competition. Jackson also made the podium in the discus where he placed fourth overall with a distance of 166-4. The Peabody standout is our state-leader in the shot with an all-time best of 61-5 from his victory at the Meet of Champions.
