HOKA Athletes Of The Week: Woburn Girls’ 4x400m, BC High Boys’ DMR

With the State Relays occupying this past weekend, an endless list of relay squads could be selected as our HOKA Athletes of the Week. We had several meet records, new state leaders, and a number of school marks and qualifiers for the New Balance in mid March. For this week’s honor, a long decision was narrowed down to one for our girls’ choice. On the boys’ side, a performance beyond the State Relays caught our eye. Congratulations to Woburn’s 4×400-meter relay and Boston College High’s distance medley relay, our respective female and male recipients.

Woburn was one of 10 teams crowned champions at the State Relays at the Reggie Lewis Center, winning the girls’ Division 3 title. The Tanners couldn’t have had a more appropriate way to earn the coveted trophy on Saturday. In the meet’s final event of the day, the foursome of Sydney Metivier, Riley Poirer, Nicole Gangi and Kayla Buback captured the 4×4 with a state-leading 4 minutes, 2.74 seconds.

As for BC High, the Eagles posted one of the nation’s best times so far in the DMR. Competing at Sunday’s Catholic Conference Invitational, the quartet of John McGrath, Joey McNeil, Shamus Lanard and Chris Lanard combined for a winning time of 10:26.95, an effort that ranks No 3 in the country.
