The last statewide competition before the Christmas holiday didn’t disappoint with this weekend’s MSTCA Speed Classic Large and Small School meets producing its share of top performances. For this week’s HOKA Athletes of the Week, we chose two of some of the best from those meets. Congratulations to Brockton’s Lucas Andrade and North Reading’s Giulliana Ligor, who we pick as our respective male and female recipients.
In the Small School meet on Sunday, Andrade won the 55-meter hurdles with a PR and state No. 2 of 7.67 seconds. The Boxers’ junior came back later in the meet and ran a leg of his team triumphant 4x200m relay that was timed in 1:33.24, currently No. 4 in MA.
As for Ligor, the Hornets’ versatile junior earned gold twice at Large School meet on Saturday. She had two state-leaders by winning the 300m dash with a time of 40.94 and leaping 17 feet 7 inches to take the long jump title.
