Per usual, several of our MA schools made the short trek to neighboring Rhode Island for the popular Ocean State Invitational, a two-day meet sponsored by Marathon Sports and HOKA. Also, once again, the Bay State was visible throughout the weekend on the grounds of Goddard Memorial State Park with several winners (individuals and teams) and top finishers.
Pre-race favorite Paul Bergeron of Westford Academy claimed the boys’ title in the featured Championship race with a time of 15 minutes, 6 seconds. In the girls’ race, Holliston’s Carmen Luisi posted the fastest time of the day among MA harriers by placing 11th in 18:32.
In total, the commonwealth state had eight individual victories at the Ocean State Invite and went home with five team plaques. Hamilton Wenham’s Cole Regan was first in the Freshmen 2 Boys, while Caleb Ford of Lexington led the Minutemen to the team crown in the Freshmen 1 Boys. Canton and Lauren Raffetto came out on top in the Freshmen 2 Girls. In Freshmen 1 Girls, Lexington earned gold. Marblehead’s Jonah Botach was a victor in Junior Varsity 2. Caleb Barnes of Melrose broke the tape in Varsity 1 Boys, which was captured by Winchester. Whitinsville-Christian and Emliy Flagg were first in Varsity 2 Girls and Marblehead was the team champion in Varsity 2 Boys.
In the junior high races on Friday, the future looks bright for Holliston as the town’s Robert Adams Middle School scored just 29 points to claim the seventh-grade girls’ race with Emerson Harrington taking the No. 1 spot. Marshfield’s Grahan Devany was the first to cross the line in the sixth-grade boys.
