As with most weeks, it was a difficult decision choosing the best candidates for our HOKA Athletes of the Week. For this week’s honor, we’re recognizing East Longmeadow’s Charlie Klatka and Northampton’s Maeve O’Neill, recent winners at the 27th annual Ted Dutkiewicz. Klatka, a seventh-place finisher in the Division 2B Championships last fall, got his season off to a great start at this past Saturday’s meet. Klatka earned his victory by covering the three-mile course at the Holyoke Community College with a time of 15 minutes, 42 seconds. The senior finished 12 seconds ahead of runner-up Theodore King-Pollet of Northampton. O’Neill, who was ninth in Div. 2A in 2022, broke the tape in 19:28.3. She held off Sara Evans of Hale Ray (CT), who was timed in 19:32.5.
