It was simply too hard to ignore.
For the second straight week, we’re picking a 400-meter run as the male recipient of the HOKA Athlete of the Week. Congratulations to Malden’s Johnny Emmanuel, who earns this week’s honor after a spectacular day at the MSTCA Coaches Invitational this past Saturday. The highlight for the talented, and very fast, senior was his performance in the one-lapper where he became the state’s first to break 48 seconds with a winning time of 47.55. Emmanual, who finished fourth in his specialty at the adidas Indoor Nationals, wasn’t finished after earning his 400m gold. He came back later to take runner-up honors in the 200m where he was timed in 21.93, just a quarter of a second behind winner, Christpher Brooks of Wellesley, who broke the tape in 21.79.
