Track Will Be Buzzing This Weekend With Four Nighttime Events

If you’re a track & field junkie and you like nighttime events like we do, this coming weekend will no doubt whet your appetite with four on the slate! That’s right, four events taking place as the sun creeps behind the clouds.

HOKA and Marathon Sports will be sponsoring two of those events that we promise will be electrifying. On Friday, we have the BSR Elite Scholastic Mile at Marshfield High. The inaugural event will feature just two races, an invite-only boys’ and girls’ mile that will include some of the best distance runners from New England (and country, too). Both fields are limited to just 13 runners, and overloaded with talent. The boys’ race includes seven runners that have run faster than 4:15, including four-minute miller Devan Kipyego of Saint Raphael Academy (RI), who will be attempting to become our latest schoolboy to go sub-4. For the girls, Newton South’s Amelia Everett brings a 4:49 best to the line. She leads a field that features five other that have broken five-minutes.

The next day, we’ll be at Weston High for the insanely-popular Weston Twilight Invitational. The 24th annual event, held at the school and nearby Regis College, includes a full slate of events and standards that have to be attained to participate. In other words, there will be plenty of PRs and state-leaders racked up on Saturday night.

Both events will be live-streamed by our State Running team. Throughout the week, we’ll be previewing both on BSR.

In addition to these two events, there’s the Lou Tozzi Freshmen-Sophomore Invitational at Middleboro High, scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. On Saturday, it’s the 13th annual New Bedford Sunset Invitational at New Bedford Voke, also beginning at 4.

We also can’t forget the Jim Hoar Freshmen-Sophomore Invitational at Weymouth. That’s the lone meet that will be held during daylight. The first event starts at 9:30 a.m.!
