Scarlet Knights Sweep Team Titles At D2 Relays

It was Home Sweet Home for North Andover at Sunday’s MSTCA Division 2 State Relays.

The Scarlet Knights swept the team titles on their home turf with the boys defeating Peabody, 77.5-56, and the girls besting Woburn, 60-41.

In the boys’ competition, North Andover earned victories in the 4×200-meter (1:30.5 seconds), 4x400m (3:24.5), and the pole vault (9.60 meters) relays. The Scarlet Knights were also second in the shot put, distance medley and shuttle hurdle relays. Peabody was first in three events, scoring those points away from the track with gold in the shot put (44.65 meters), long jump (18.66 meters) and triple jump (25.47 meters) relays. The Tanners’ Alex Jackson had top throws in the shot (57-9) and discus (165-0).

On the girls’ side, North Andover had just one victory for the day, capturing the 4×1,600m relay in 21.55.56. The Scarlet Knight scored 40 points by placing second in five events – the sprint medley, shuttle hurdle, distance medley, high jump and shot put relays.

Among the highlights, the Wellesley boys established a new meet record in the 4×1,600m relay. The quartet of Maxwell Hoffman, Stephen Goehringer, Robert Foster and Eli Merritt combined for a time of 17:56.40. That effort dipped under the previous record of 18:03.51 by Marshfield.
