More League Championship Madness!
Cape Ann League
Boys Varsity
Hamilton-Wenham edged Newburyport, 49-51, for the Cape Anne League Championship at Wrentham. The generals had five runners in the top 20 and their top three broke 17. Cole Regan and Seth Glidden both finished in the top five. Regan was second overall in 16:25 with Glidden back in fifth at 16:24.
Newburyport was led by Cape Ann League Champ Michael Mohoric. He broke the tape in 15:45, his second time under 16 minutes this season. Mohoric was runner up at the Deven’s Pre Championship Classic earlier this season. He is one of the top runners in Division Two and will compete in the 2B race at Northfield Mountain. Teammate Nordeen Fadil was fourth overall in 16:33.
Cassidy McBee of Triton Regional was third overall, beating Fadil to the line by three tenths of a second, in 16:33.40. McBee and Triton will compete in the Division 3A race in Fort Devens.
Girls Varsity
It was a similar story in the girl’s race. #11 Hamilton-Wenham took care of business on Saturday, defeating Newburyport 48-60.
The Generals star duo of Grace Rich and Asa Labell went 1-2, running 18:37 and 18:53, both season bests. Talia Labell, just a freshman, was fourth overall in 19:50, giving Hamilton-Wenham a strong start that became insurmountable. Anneliese Bubar and Anna Regan finished in fourth and fifth for the Generals. With their strong top three, Hamilton-Wenham will look to conquer the podium at the Division 3B Championships in Fort Devens
Quinlan Kelly was third overall in 19:35 for Norh Reading. This was a big PR. Kelly was 16th overall at the Division 3A Championships last season, and she appears ready to improve upon that.
Abby Lopez was fifth overall for Lynfield in 19:59. This was her first time cracking the 19-minute mark. Lopez was also 10th overall in 20:11 at the Deven’s Pre-Championship Classic, so she’s familiar with the course there.
