Plymouth South took the win and emerged as a contender out of Division 1C. They started the season on our preseason rankings, and Saturday they showed why, winning by a margin of 38 points to take the win over Marshfield.

The Panther’s Anthony Lyons finished second overall in a PR of 16:00. In total, Plymouth South had six runners under 17 minutes over the course at Silver Lake, and their top five ran 16:47 or better. Behind Lyons, Plymouth South had a strong pack with Michael Reiche, 16:31, Nathan Burton, 16:34, and Kenji Gallo, 16:37, finish together. Joseph Dimartinis was 13th overall in 16:47. Jake Parks also cracked 17 for the Panther’s running 16:59.

Palmieri will be one of the top contenders in Division Two over the next couple weeks. Teammate, and freshmen, Logan Holloway, also ran a massive PR to finish third overall in 16:10.

He wasn’t the only fast freshmen, as Marshfield’s Connor Rightmire was fourth overall in a PR of 16:17. Marshfield had a breakthrough performance to finish with 75 points. They’ll look to keep the momentum rolling as the head into states chasing a Meet of Champions slot out of D1B.

Plymouth North’s Dylan Vaughn finished fifth overall in 16:32, a 36 second PR over his previous best. Vaughan is peaking at the right time with states right around the corner.

Girls Varsity

The girl’s race was a similar story, with North Quincy taking the win with 30 points, over Marshfield with 80. They’ll take on the best of Division 1B in a few weeks’ time where they’ll look to qualify for the Meet of Champs. They’ll be led by Patriot League Champion, Maddy McGillicuddy. She ran a PR of 19:05 to take the win. Teammate Ada Cote was fifth overall in a season best of 20:03.

North Quincy’s top five all finished in the top 11. Zoe Nelson was just behind Cote, in a massive PR of 20:04. Joanna Chen and Caroline Zuffante finished in 10th and 11th, with both running PRs of 20:13 and 20:15.

Plymouth North’s Devin Foy was runner up, in a huge PR of 19:11. Foy cemented herself as one of the top runners in D1B, where she’ll look for a top ten finish.

Marshfield was led by Sara Penney who finished third overall in a PR of 19:37. Like Foy, she’ll compete in D1B in a few weeks where’ll she look to lead the rams again and hopefully qualify for the Meet of Champs.

Plymouth South’s Evi Chadwick was fourth overall and cracked 19 minutes as well, finishing in 19:52. Like many of her competitors, she appears to be peaking at the right time and will compete at the D1C Championships.

Hockomock League Championships

The Hockomock League was one of many championships meets that took place at Wrentham Saturday.

Boys Varsity

While league champion Landon Sarney may get most of the headlines, and deservedly so, Oliver Ames put together a phenomenal team performance. Devon McStowe was third overall and cracked 16 minutes for the first time, running 15:59.

From there, their top seven all ran 16:39 or better. Lawrence Dear came in at 16:25 for sixth overall and was then followed by Jake Hauvuy and Douglas Smith, both running 16:30 to round out there top five. Colin Donahue and Corey Yifru were their final two scorers running 16:36 and 16:39.

The individual title came down to the wire, as Landon Sarney held off North Attleborough’s Anthony Malakidis, 15:31.6 to 15:32.9. Sarney has been one of the state’s top contenders all season. Malakidis has emerged amongst the state’s best this season as he steadily lowered his times. The two will meet again at the D1C championships.

Mansfield’s Nikita Cherapukha was fourth overall in a PR of 16:17 to lead the Hornets to third place. Franklin’s Kyle Twomey was fifth overall in a PR of 16:23 to lead the Panthers.

Alexa Piazza and Adileh Azar were third and fourth overall running 19:09 and 19:32, giving Canton a formidable top three. Isabella Holland and Madeleine Driscoll rounded their top five finishing 8th and 13th overall.

Stella Napa of Franklin was second overall in 19:03. She will compete in Division 1A in a few weeks and look to qualify for the Meet of Champions. If she can crack 19 minutes on the same course, she’ll have a good shot at top ten.
