A mere point separated the Billerica girls from team champion Marblehead at last year’s MSTCA Division 3 State Relays.
On Saturday, the Indians got their redemption on the Magicians, and all the rest. With a balanced attack, Billerica ran away with the Div. 3 crown inside the Reggie Lewis Center, defeating second-place Duxbury, 47-33. Amherst-Pelham finished third with 32 points, just one ahead of Marblehead in fourth. For the boys, Milton edged Melrose, 50-44. Billerica was third with 39 points.
The scoring for Billerica was nearly identical when splitting the total with the running events and the throwing/jumping events. The Indians scored 24 points on the track with victories in the 4×800.meter (9 minutes, 40.46 seconds) and distance medley (12:42.77) relays and a fifth-place finish in the 4x400m (4:21.15). Away from the oval, Billerica compiled 23 points, taking the long jump (14.59 meters). placing second in the shot (27.64m), and fourth in the high jump (4.24m) relays.

Amherst-Pelham and Duxbury engaged in a down-to-the-wire affair in the 4x200m, an event that produced the state’s top two times this season. A-P squeaked by its rival by just .14 with the quartet of Ololara Baptiste, Ruby Astin, Claire Fortin and Emilia Luetjen combining for a time of 1:46.13.
Milton scored in seven of the 10 events for its win on Saturday. The Wildcats won the 4x50m (22.19) and 4x200m (1:32.24) relays and were second in the shuttle hurdle (26.28) and 4x400m (3:28.24) relays. In the SHR and the 4x200m, Milton established new meet records.
