It was home cooking for Sophie Shaw.

Competing on a course she calls home, the Bishop Feehan junior captured the girls’ Varsity race at Saturday’s fifth annual Highland Park Invitational. Shaw won a close race, outdistancing Haddam Killingworth by just three seconds with a winning time of 20:30.19. With all five of its scoring runners among the top 16, Haddam Killingworth denied Feehan of its second straight title with a 39-56 decision over the runner-up Shamrocks.

Pre-meet favorite Cole Francis of Narragansett (RI) claimed the boys’ title with a time of 16:04.54. Francis was a comfortable 100-plus meters ahead of fellow state rival Luke Allen of East Greenwich, who was second in16:25.15. Allen and the Avengers grabbed team honors with 39 points. Highlighted by a 3-4 finish from Michael Upton (16:28.44) and Daniel Norton (16:39.41), Catholic Memorial was second with 57 points.

At the 28th annual Tom Dutkiewicz Memorial Invitational, a pair of underclassmen solidified the first two spots in the boys’ race with Frontier sophomore Evan Hedlund taking the gold with a time of 16:27.87. Lenox Memorial’s Benjamin Harwood, another tenth-grader, was second in 16:33.06. Frontier defeated West Springfield, 66-72, for the team title

Plymouth North’s Macey Shriner was a dominant victor in then girls’ race, winning by nearly 50 seconds with a time of 19:07.45. Minnechaug’s Maggie Joyce snared the silver with a 19:56.50 clocking. With its’ five scoring runners among the top 13, Hampshire Regional beat runner-up Minnechaug, 38-61, for team honors.
