The MSTCA Twilight Invitational on Friday night produced its share of highlights at Foxboro High.
As expected, Franklin senior Sarah Dumas earned gold in the girls’ hurdle events. Dumas established a new meet record in the 400m IH with a PR of 1:01.88, a time that ranks No. 2 behind rival Giuliano Ligor of North Reading. Dumas also came out on top in the 100m HH where she raced to a season best of 14.87.
Falmouth sophomore Silas Gartner turned a close race in the two mile into a runway victory, breaking the tape in an all-time best of 9:29.28. Finishing second was Shane Stanghellini of Sturgis Charter West, who was timed in 9:44.69. Gartner held just a two-second advantage over Stanghellini at the 2K mark. He built his lead to five seconds by 2,400m and never looked back. Gartner ran his final mile in 4:38 and covered his last 400m in 66 seconds.
Taunton’s Dmitrius Shearron swept the sprint events, blazing to victories in the 100m dash (10.91) and the 200m (21.63). His time in the 200m ranks No. 2 state behind Wellesley’s Christopher Brooks, who won the Coaches Invitational on Saturday in 21.20. Shearron is tied for sixth in the 100m
Norwell’s Noah Mulligan became the state’s second runner to break 49 seconds for the 400m with a winning time and PR of 48.57. Stoughton’s Carlen Elas was second at 50.84. Mulligan improved on his previous best of 49.88 from the Warrior Invitational on April 18.
State-leader Elizabeth Hopkins of Franklin continued her dominance in the javelin with a toss of 129-9. Hopkins, who has a best of 139-5 this season, had four throws exceed 121 feet.
Arlington’s Erin Moran matched her PR and state best of 11 feet to captured the javelin. In the shot, Bishop Feehan’s Lily DeForge went 40-plus for the first time with a heave of 40-6. DeForge had four throws 39 feet or further.
In a competitive 800m, Taunton’s Emersyn DePonte led three runners under 2:20 with a winning time of 2:17.86. Taking the next two spots were Holliston’s Maggie Kuchman (second, 2:18.25) and King Philip’s Danielle Lomuscio (third, 2:19.33).
