BSR Elite Scholastic Meet On May 15 Features Expanded Track Events

The proof is in the stats.

In its three-year history, 22 girls have broken five minutes for the mile, and 30 boys have bettered 4:15. The competition has always been fierce at the BSR Elite Scholastic Meet, which draws top talent from across the region.

The 2026 meet promises even more high-caliber competition.

Athletes will take to the track on May 15 at UMass-Amherst, where Marathon Sports and New Balance will host the fourth-annual meet. Since its inaugural event in 2023, the meet has grown—and even changed names—to reflect its expansion.

Initially featuring invite-only mile races, the meet added a boys’ 800-meter race in 2025. This year, it has expanded further with elite 800m races for both boys and girls, plus a 400m dash.

And that’s not all. The BSR Elite Scholastic Meet will also offer unseeded heats in each race if athletes have met the qualifying standard.

The goal of the yearly event is to provide elite scholastic competition. Seeded heats will be invite-only. Any athlete interested in the seeded races should email co-meet directors Dennis Sheppard (dennis.sheppard@marathonsports.com) or Tim Cox (tcox@coebrown.org). All other athletes who meet the standard can register on Direct Athletics. If an athlete initially registers for an unseeded heat and is later moved into a seeded heat, they will be refunded.

Listed below are the meet standards.

Girls: Mile – 5:05; 800m – 2:17; 400m – 58.0

Boys: Mile – 4:22; 800m – 1:57; 400m – 50.0

Of note, winners from the BSR Eagle Invite on April 24 at St. John’s Prep, and the NH Distance Festival on May 1 at Souhegan High, automatically receive free entry into the meet. (Seeded heat not guaranteed).
