
Nathan Henshaw was at his best on Saturday.
The Parker Charter senior captured the mile and two-mile and ran a leg on the winning 4×800-meter relay, lifting the Panthers to the boys team title at the MIAA Division 5 Championships. Henshaw’s busy and productive day at The TRACK at New Balance enabled Parker Charter to hold off second-place Clinton, 46-41.5.
On the girls side, Lunenburg escaped with a narrow 42-40 decision over Seekonk. The Blue Knights’ victory was highlighted by wins in the 4×400-meter and 4×800-meter relays.
In the boys competition, Henshaw edged Hamilton-Wenham’s Cole Regan by just 0.33 seconds to win the mile in 4:25.00. Teammate Jett Johnson placed fourth in 4:32.52. Henshaw later returned to earn a nearly four-second victory in the two-mile, clocking 9:33.98.
Along with Johnson, Cormac Hildreth and Danny Garrison, Henshaw also ran on the gold-medal 4×800-meter relay team, which finished in 8:32.98.
Clinton went 1-2 in the 55m dash, with Sean Blaze taking the crown in a PR of 6.46, a time that currently ties him for No. 4 in the state rankings. The Gaels’ Gavin Naughton secured runner-up honors in 6.52, tying him for No. 6. Blaze also placed third in the 300 (34.98) and teamed with Naughton, Hugo Lima and Alexander DoValle on the winning 4×200 relay, which held off Monomoy by 0.09 seconds in 1:32.16.
In the 300m, Abington’s speedy siblings Nathan and Aiden Calcario took the top two spots in 34.56 and 34.98, respectively. Nathan moved to No. 3 in the state rankings, while Aiden is tied for No. 6.
Just two hundredths of a second separated Quabbin’s Colin Lindsey and Snowden’s Terrance McGhee Jr. in the 600. Lindsey claimed the title in a PR of 1:23.76.
Hopedale’s Ari Levine, one of the state’s top shot-putters, won his specialty with a throw of 60 feet, 3.5 inches. Levine, who ranks No. 2 in the state behind Oliver Ames’ Mitchell Callendar, has surpassed 60 feet in three of his last meets. He owns a best of 62-3 from his runner-up finish to Callendar at the MSTCA Coaches Invitational on Jan. 24.
Olivia Coronella was a key contributor in Lunenburg’s victory. The junior placed second in the two-mile (11:38.23) and fourth in the mile (5:15.99). Along with Sophia Viveiros, Casey Corey and Jill Dionne, Coronella also ran a leg on the first-place 4x800m relay (10:09.28).
Lunenburg’s 4×400 team of Viveiros, Corey, Katynna Long and Norah Brown finished in 4:16.92.
Seekonk’s Julianna Dutra was the day’s fastest sprinter, sweeping the 55m (7.34) and 300m (41.19). Teammate Hayden Robinson won the 600m in 1:36.0, a time that moves her to sixth in the rankings.
Carver’s Emma Wall joined eight others tied for No. 4 in the state in the high jump by clearing 5-4. Advanced Math & Science’s Aysha Silva won the shot put with a toss of 36-1.5.
