The MSTCA Division State Relays have arrived.
A majority of coaches will agree that this weekend’s meets represent a true team champion; where depth and talent play a more important role than next month’s championship meets. Throughout this week, we’ll provide a capsule of all five divisions. Who are the teams that will be facing each other this weekend and what are some of the top events and athletes that will be competing in their respective divisions? We’ll have it here. Below we feature the Division 2 State Relays, which will be held on Sunday at Reggie Lewis, beginning at 9 a.m.

Athletes & Events To Watch: Lexington should be among the teams contending for the team title on Sunday, and the Distance Medley Relay is one of the events where the Minutemen could rack up a significant number of points. Based on the entries, Lexington owns the top two seeds with times of 12:02 and 12:18. Newton North (12:20.13), Wachusett Regional (12:36.00), Needham (12:45), and Weymouth also have seed times under 13 minutes, setting the stage for a highly competitive race…With seven teams having broken 1:50 this season, the 4×200-meter relay has the potential to generate plenty of electricity inside Reggie Lewis this weekend. Newton North leads the field with a season best of 1:46.53, a time that ties the Tigers with Duxbury for No. 2 in the state. Wachusett (1:47.49), Lexington (1:48.53), Acton-Boxborough (1:48.86), Framington (1:49.11), Andover (1:49.06), and Needham (1:49.46) round out a loaded, high-powered field…One of several meet records could fall early in the competition with the 4x50m relay. The current record of 24.39 was set by Acton-Boxborough in 2024. Based on seed times, the top four teams are all within striking distance – Acton-Boxborough (24.62), Andover (24.70), Framingham (24.85), and Newton North (24.91)

Division 1 State Relays – Boys
Day/Time: Sunday at 3 p.m.
Teams: Acton-Boxborough, Andover, Arlington, Attleboro, Boston College High, Boston Latin, Braintree, Brockton, Brookline, Cambridge Rindge & Latin, Central Catholic, Durfee, Framingham, Franklin, Haverhill, Lawrence, Lexington, Lowell, Medford, Methuen, Natick, Needham, New Bedford, Newton North, Newton South, Saint John’s, Saint John’s Prep, Shrewsbury, Taunton, Wachusett, Weymouth, Xaverian Brothers
Athletes & Events To Watch: The 4x200m relay could be the race of the day, featuring a marquee match-up between St. John’s Prep and Xaverian Brothers—two teams on the verge of breaking 1:30 and joining current state leader Catholic Memorial. The Knights dipped under the barrier with a 1:29.63 at a Catholic Conference meet on Friday. St. John’s Prep (1:30.03), Xaverian Brothers (1:30.06), and Boston College High (1:30.52) have all gone sub-1:31 this season. Can you say hand-offs? That appears to be the difference-maker in what could be a race decided in the final few meters among the trio. Newton North and Attleboro are also seeded in the 1:30 range, but their season bests currently sit at 1:34.62 and 1:33.51, respectively. Brockton (1:32.68), Lexington (1:31.54), and Acton-Boxborough (1:31.67) add further depth to a loaded field. Newton North set the meet record of 1:29.87 at last year’s meet, but that one-year-old mark could be short-lived…The 4x800m relay could also be a standout event. The New Balance Nationals qualifying standard is 7:39, and four teams have already achieved it this season. We could see several more on Sunday. Xaverian Brothers (7:32.30), Brookline (7:33.80), Arlington (7:34.00), BC High (7:36.84), Newton North (7:37.20), and St. John’s Prep (7:37.80) are all seeded under the standard. With that kind of lineup on the track, something special is bound to happen…. Three athletes over six feet this season and one just happens to the be the state-leader. It doesn’t get any better than that when it comes to the high jump relay. Top-seed Central Catholic will be tough to beat this weekend and will no doubt challenge the 16-year-old record of 18-5 by BC High. The Raiders team includes Carlos Quintana, who leaped a state best of 6-8 on Wednesday. He’ll be joined by Max Lightfoot (6-4) and Peter Thomas (6-2)
