Division 2 Indoor State Relays Preview

The MSTCA Division State Relays have arrived.

A majority of coaches will agree that this weekend’s meets represent a true team champion; where depth and talent play a more important role than next month’s championship meets. Throughout this week, we’ll provide a capsule of all five divisions. Who are the teams that will be facing each other this weekend and what are some of the top events and athletes that will be competing in their respective divisions?We’ll have it here. Below we feature the Division 2 State Relays, which will be held on Sunday at Reggie Lewis, beginning at 9 a.m.

Division 2 State Relays Girls

Day/Time: Sunday at 9 a.m.

Athletes & Events To Watch:

4x800m: Distance Powerhouses Wellesley and Billerica are set to battle it out here for a new state leading time. The real question is how fast do they go? Both teams are seeded under 9:30; DMR: Once again all eyes will be on Billerica as they look for a state #1 and New Balance Nationals qualifying mark. The standard of 12:38 is well within their capabilities. Also watch out for Concord-Carlisle as they go for the standard; 4x50y: While Westford Academy has come to be know for their superb distance running, they’ll challenge for the meet record Sunday. Natick currently holds the record at 24.90; SP Relay: The Shot Put relay will feature an incredible battle between Peabody, Woburn, North Andover, and King Phillip Regional. All four teams feature trios that could average over 30 feet; 4x400m: What’s a relay meet without a great 4×4? Wellesley will look to become the fourth team under 4:10 this season. Can anyone go with them?

Athletes & Events To Watch:

LJ Relay: We mentioned in our preseason preview that Catholic Memorial had the potential for an epic Long Jump relay. Well, here we are. The top three entries overall belong to CM. Amar Skeete and Jameson Booker have both jumped over 23 feet. (Skeete well over) Add in Jelani Semper who’s jumped 22’5.75″ and we could see something special. This trio has the potential to smash the meet record of 62’6.25″; 4x800m: If Cross Country scored 10 runners, Concord-Carlisle might have taken the Meet of Champs. On Sunday they’ll try and place two teams in the top six for the 4×8. Their A team will challenge Wellesley for the overall title; 4x200m: This one could have fireworks. Lincoln-Sudbury and Catholic Memorial will look to break the meet record of 1:30.50. Catholic Memorial ran 1:29.63 on Friday. Could they go faster Sunday? DMR: Led by 4:12 Miler Shane Leslie, Billerica will look to run away with the title, while Concord-Carlisle will once again attempt to place two teams in the top six; 4x400m Make sure to check the team score before this one starts. Woburn and Bridgewater-Raynham will look to become the third team to crack 3:30 this season.
