New Balance Boys Athlete of the Week (1/4-1/11)

Starting this week, we will be unveiling our picks for New Balance Athlete of the Week. Each week we will pick an outstanding performance from one boy and one girl.

Boys Athlete of the Week

Like the girls, narrowing the boys down to one performance was difficult. Many of our top performers have been doing incredible things all season which made picking just off this week’s performances a challenge.

The perfect example would be Catholic Memorial’s Amar Skeete. He’s one of the best jumpers in the nation and has been jumping out of the building this season. He set his indoor PR in the triple jump of 49’7.25” back on December 8th and has remained undefeated since (He lost to a college athlete at Winter Warrior). That includes his victory at the Nor’Easter at the track this weekend. We’re confident he’ll take down the state record of 49’11” at some point this season.

Alex Todorov of Xaverian became the third Bay State athlete under 35 in the 300 this weekend at the Northeast Invitational and came back to win the 4x200m with his teammates. Michael Mohoric of Newburyport became the third Massachusetts runner under 4:20 this season to win the mile at the same meet. And in case you missed it, the Brookline Boys (Harry Flint, Elijah Sweeney, Jonathan Traub, and Theodore Butty) set a new meet record in the DMR at Yale, finishing in 10:24.37.

However this week we decided to go with an athlete that has been helping his team in multiple events all season, and that was on full display this past week. Our inaugural boy’s athlete of the week is Jarred Mighty of Brockton!

Mighty had big shoes to fill this season, after teammate and state record holder Lucas Andrade graduated. He won the 55m Hurdles at the Nor’Easter at the Track in a new PR and State #1 of 7.50! Mighty also set a PR in the 300m, running 35.92 for sixth overall, and then came back to run on the first place 4x400m relay. Mighty has been an integral part of Brockton’s state #1 4x400m team all season, and we look forward to watching him lead the boxers for the rest of the season. Congratulations Jarred!
