New Balance Girls Power Rankings Week 8

Our girls’ rankings are a different story compared to the boys. Most of the top spots remain unchanged. Not that there weren’t standout performances. Lexington may have put even more distance between themselves and the field over the last few weeks. Westford Academy had a great performance at Franklin Park for the DCL Championships. Abigail Hennessy had a legendary race. However, if you compare it to Lexington’s performance on the same course from Catholic Memorial, you begin to see the difference. While it was different days, it really put into perspective how strong Lexington’s top seven are.

Despite remaining at #4, Winchester had a great day at the Middlesex League Championships, with multiple runners having big performances. They’re still without one of their top runners but cemented their status among the Bay State’s elite.

Canton moves into #9 after taking the Hockomock League Championships. They’ll be set to challenge #8 Westwood over the next few weeks, at both the Division 2A race and the Meet of Champions. Norwell moved back up the rankings into 11, as they get set to defend their Division 3A crown and challenge for the overall Division 3 title over the next few weeks.

Wellesley makes the biggest move this week, moving up six spots into 12, just ahead of Bay State Conference rival Weymouth. They had one of their best performances of the season at the BSC Championships. Both teams should get a chance to race each other again as both are favorites to qualify for the Meet of Champions. In fact, it’ll be worth keeping an eye on how many teams from the Bay State Conference qualify.

Wachusett moves into #16, after winning the A race at the Mid-Wach League Championships. They did so without #1 runner Naomi Witt.

Both North Quincy and Arlington rejoin the rankings in similar fashion. Both teams had relatively quiet seasons thus far. Then both had strong performances at their respective league meets proving they belong with the best.
